Paolo has made a significant contribution to the health and wellness of the organization. He brings highly valued strength and skills to WCB, where he contributes both to our own prevention and ergonomic needs, and also as part of a service provision to external clients.
Paolo's role included participating as part of a design team for our library relocation. The report identified clearly the key considerations - efficiency in workflow in a high volume environment and ergonomic considerations for staff. Results included a 35% increase in volume with only modest increase in staffing levels, and an 85% drop in staff concerns.
His involvement has resulted in productivity improvements for the Corporation, primarily through design evolvement of employee workstation layouts. Not only have there been productivity improvements, but the WCB-Alberta can boast one of the best staff ergonomic programs around.
He spent adequate time with the staff members and me to ensure he understood the full scope of our issues with the breast cancer screening tool. The report he prepared is easy to understand, yet very detailed, and provided me with the evidence I required to escalate this issue to high authorities. Paolo provided practical recommendations, supported by his research to solve the problem.
Paolo authored several business cases on the purchase of ergonomic furniture and equipment. Given the size of the organization the financial controllers were wary of spending money on what in their opinion was "unproven technology". Paolo's depth of research and objective cost calculations were able to turn naysayers into believers.
The recommendations were reviewed at the Safety Committee level and some are being implemented as new equipment is being purchased. One direct result of his report was the establishment of an Ergonomics Committee. Three employees attended specialized ergonomics courses and are implementing and monitoring an ergonomics program in that division.
The Town contracted Paolo's services to perform an ergonomics audit for 5 different areas. The process included site visits to five different town owned facilities. The report was thorough and easy to read. We used it as a tool for other workers at each building to utilize and make changes at their own workstation. Pictures included in the report made it easier to follow and showed how improvements could be made at other workstations.
Workplace risk factors identified a lack of keyboarding skills for intensive computer work, leading to increased symptoms and reduced productivity among staff members.
A local college was engaged to provide specialized keyboarding classes over a period of time, with curriculum tailored to the specific job requirements.
